Six reason’s to go to Ottawa this September!
Ottawa Urban Experiences
Get away to Ottawa and sample the best of Canada all in one city. Visit the historic Parliament Hill, the National Gallery of Canada, the National Arts Centre, and the Canadian Museum of Civilization – home to the world’s largest indoor collection of totem poles. Then shop, dine and unwind in the chic ByWard Market neighbourhood.
Urban Escapes
For a truly unique Ottawa experience, visit the vibrant ByWard Market neighbourhood in the heart of downtown. Located just a short walk east of Parliament Hill, it’s a visitor favourite: a bustling farmers’ market and eclectic shopping district with many local boutiques by day; great dining, and lively clubs and pubs by night.
National Sights
Famous national landmarks and historic sites greet visitors around every corner in Canada’s capital. Foremost among them is Parliament Hill, the seat of Canada’s federal government and the setting for historic happenings and national celebrations. Take a free tour and ride to the top of its soaring Peace Tower for a spectacular 360º view.
Cultural Riches
Interested in the visual arts? Head straight to the stunning National Gallery of Canada. Canadian and world culture? Visit the incomparable Canadian Museum of Civilization. The Canadian War Museum plus other national museums devoted to nature, science and technology, aviation, agriculture and more offer endless opportunities for discovery and fascination.
Walk This Way
Though a G8 capital and the fourth largest metropolitan area in Canada, Ottawa has a surprisingly compact downtown, with many of the city’s major historic sites, attractions and activities all within easy walking distance of each other. For a change of pace, you can also see the sights by bicycle, doubledecker bus, hop-on-hop-off tours, amphibious tours, and cruise boats.
Rideau Canal UNESCO World Heritage Site
Completed in 1832, the historic Rideau Canal was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2007. During spring, summer and fall, the Canal is filled with sightseeing cruises, boaters and canoeists, plus cyclists on the paved recreation paths that line its banks. In winter, it freezes over to become the world’s largest skating rink!
